The COVID-19 pandemic has compelled scientists and public health professionals to think of developing higher-order mobile containment laboratories for early detection of pathogens and their quick control. Existing infrastructure of BSL laboratories is fixed and depends on sample transport from near and far locations. This is challenging and often leads to delays in diagnosis. A mobile laboratory can operate in the remotest locations of the country, revealing findings at source and potentially mitigating the spread of deadly infectious diseases. To realize this objective, ICMR and Klenzaids joined hands to design and build India’s first Mobile BSL3+Laboratory - BioKlenz®.
The laboratory consists of the following equipment:
- SteriKlenz Autoclave with VHP cycles
- BioKlenz BioKlenz® Class II A2 biosafety cabinets
- KlenzPurge Wet Shower
- KlenzPort Dynamic Passbox
- RTCPR machine
- Automatic Nucleic acid extraction machine
- Deep freezers -20°C & -80°C and LN2 Storage
- CO2 incubator
- Ref high speed centrifuge
- All other laboratory equipment necessary for science in BSL 3 settings
- BLED - Biological Liquid Effluent Decontamination System
- On Board HVAC with HEPA filtration
- PAPRs – Personnel air protection respirators
The laboratory consists of the following spaces:
- Changing rooms for personal
- Wet Shower
- Material staging area
- Biosafety level 3+ laboratory area
- Dedicated Technical area
